The school identifies about 10% of pupils as having additional learning needs. This is considerably lower than the national figure of 22%.
Romilly School is within walking distance of Porthkerry Park, Romilly Park, Cold Knap gardens and Barry Island beach.

Aims of the Project
To engage the children creatively using a creative artform.
Ensure the delivery of excellent learning opportunities in maths across the curriculum.
To develop practical maths skills and an ability to solve real life problems with their skills.
Project overview
This creative project forms part of the Creative Schools Programme managed by the Arts Council of Wales. The school is keen to explore maths and numeracy in a creative and practical way that will inspire the children to engage with the subject. This very exciting opportunity exists for a creative thinker who can engage a lively group of students with the support of enthusiastic staff. Romilly school is a large school with three year 4 classes. The school has an ambitious plan to engage all 3 classes and is willing to support the project with eager staff that wish to support the Creative Practitioner in developing this project. The focus of the Creative Practitioner’s work will be with one year 4 class of 30 children, whilst offering support and guidance to two teachers of the other year 4 classes who will engage their classes in a similar way.

The theme of the project has been deliberately left open for discussion with applicants. The project focus is on exploring maths and numeracy and this could include looking at one or multiple areas such as measurement, time, multiplication tables or another practical maths application. Above all the school is eager to see a creative and novel approach that will practically engage the children in a creative way whilst complementing the curriculum for these young learners. The specific topic and direction that the project takes will be heavily influenced by the Creative Practitioner in collaboration with the school, Creative Agent and the learners. The project might involve a visual arts project, a group performance, music or an outdoor learning activity in which numeracy would be the focus.
The project will take place during the Spring 2017 term. It is envisaged that the project will commence mid February 2017 after the half term break with further evaluation in the Summer term
The applicant will be appointed in November 2016 (see ‘how to apply’ below)
