Merthyr Vale Plaque
The Brief - Merthyr Vale Plaque
This project required the development of creative interpretation and points of interest for users along the route of the Trevithick Trail between Merthyr Tydfil and Abercynon.
We worked closely with the lead regeneration officer and the Local Authority Landscape Architect to create an integrated viewing platform, seating area and information panel. The plaque is sited along the Trevithick Trail at Merthyr Vale with views across the valley of Aberfan and the Brecon Beacons towards the north.
The plaque was initially made in clay and then cast in bronze and sited on a large pennant stone monolith which acts as a plinth. The plaque depicts the lower Merthyr valley in high relief highlighting several villages, trails and relevant historical information.
The plaque is bilingual and the location was used for the launch event of the Trevithick Trail. The trail was officially launched by the Assembly Minister for Culture, Leader of the Council for Merthyr Tydfil and the Mayor of Merthyr Tydfil (as depicted above).
